Trump’s New Tariffs: Can You Afford To Buy From China?

the only reason why you can buy that product cheaper is that they have competition, once the there's no competition or the local brand no longer produce the same product, they will increase the price and there's nothing you can do about it.

I am a businessman based in Cote d'Ivoire( Ivory Coast ), a very beautiful and amazing country located in west Africa. And most of my equipment and machines, I get them from China. They are more effective and way cheaper than the American or European ones. There is no match! China is the number 1.
A gentleman made a similar comment on one of my videos. It’s not about supporting American vs. Chinese. You nailed it…it’s 100% about cost. We can have values and desire all day long but we can’t snap our fingers to double, or in this case, quadruple our bank account. Even then that amount of money may not be justified for non-commercial use. I’m just a regular Joe who’s trying to save his back.
Great videos. Really enjoy your channel!
Higher grade build quality from China too, since it is the global manufacturing hub for most of the world’s products. American companies usually order the cheapest quality parts or items (also from China) to increase their profit margins. When buying Chinese directly, the quality is usually higher thanks to them not skimping, and they still keep the prices way lower.
America doesn’t manufacture anything anymore. It is an importer country. All about consuming none about producing. You can blame corporate greed for this.
This disparity in cost is exactly why NAFTA was put in place. Some countries are better than others at producing certain goods. It allows us to focus on what we are good at. American made is not BETTER if the only way to make an equivalent product is at 200-300% increase in cost... and that added amount is going to go even higher now that there are 25% tariffs being put on ALL steel and aluminum coming in from outside.

You could buy those American equivalents - so long as you swapped your entire client base for super-rich folks willing to pay 5x what you currently charge normal folks for your services. You’re not a traitor - you understand operating costs vs the customer base you work with. Hell, even if you did only service millionaires, I still wouldn’t fault you for making sensible machinery purchases. If it was a case of reliability vs cost, that’d be different but if the machines last as long as more expensive ones, why pay the premium just to “fly the flag”…
Over the last 3 decades ..American businesses bought cheap Chinese products and marked it up manifold ... China made very little money but she had no choice; China was making low end products ... But now and moving forward.. It's different
I used to buy only American made tools: Craftsman, Kobalt, and a few other brands. That’s until these brands started selling Chinese made tools for the same high price as actual American made tools. I only buy Chinese stuff at low Chinese appropriate prices. Same is true with these machines. We have American companies trying to double the price of these Chinese built machines. If I could buy American machines without going through the stealership, maybe I could afford them too.

Our company was asked to switch from American and British to Chinese due to cost cutting measures. We braced ourselves for having more problems and breakdowns. Three years on and the machines and components from China on average are lasting twice as long versus the stuff we were getting from the U.S or Britain.

I could go on and on about our American system! This started way back in the 70’s. I remember when the American made automobile was the standard, but the companies got greedy. The government then added tariffs to Japanese vehicles, which were smaller used less gas and were fuel efficient. In response the American car manufacturers upped their prices but not their quality. I wanted my family members who drove them get more & more frustrated with repeat bills to keep them on the road. My mom brought a Toyota Camry and it was a game changer. Eventually my dad did the same and they never looked back. Everything in the country I love is now for profit. Companies don’t care about their consumers until they realize they no longer have their loyal base. By then it’s too late. Look at this last election, promises made of betterment but what we’re seeing is more of the same. I applaud you for spending your hard earned money wisely. Much of this country is owned by China because of greed. I don’t like where we are heading but what can I do! Good luck guys
My company switched production back to the US back in 2019 after the first tariff, our sales dropped by 60% the following year due to the price increase! We switched production back to our overseas factory in 2020, even with the initial tariff. The customers are still paying more than before but less than the ones produced here.
Thank you sir for your candid assessment. You are no traitor--just a smart consumer. I hope you don't mind me getting a bit academic here. Many people who lambast China for cheap products often purchase their low-end products on online retail venues. Those manufacturers know that there's a sucker born every minute, with buyers thinking they can avoid the old adage that you "get what you pay for". Moreover in economics, there's a concept known as the "latecomer advantage." Without understanding this concept, we risk politicizing everything and becoming Sinophobic. Essentially, the Chinese, along with other countries that had in the past wanted to speed up development (a few decades ago "import substitution industrialization" was employed and approximates the aforementioned term), would study the products they want, see how they failed in the original markets, and simply improve upon them so that they could jumpstart their domestic industries. They watch and learn from other people's mistakes. Now, the old refrain that China copies everything--in the world of military spending, industrial espionage is common. The US even human trafficked former Nazis to get their rocket program going; they let off the hook Japanese administrators of Unit 731 so as to steal their research data on biological warfare. Deepseek was hacked within days of their release--the NSA does not sit around and write yelp reviews. Like our host on the video here: I want to buy American as well but the American labor force is a very demanding overhead cost, and this translates to more expensive products. Truth be told, if you pay a good price for Chinese products, you will have an excellent product.
I am a Brit & visited the US for the last ever time in 22. All goods that were half the price of ours, just six years earlier, were five times ours by 22. 26 bucks for a jar of coffee FFS. Barely below 300 per day for car rental. 100 per day just for picnic lunch food from Safeway. The taxes for my trip came to more than the original entire budget. Switzerland is now just ONE THIRD of the price. I don't know what happened your way but there is no way back within a century.
I am a Chinese resident in Australia, and my perspective isn't driven by politics. I simply believe that everyone should have access to affordable options. While the oligarchs persuade people that tariffs serve the common good, they ought to focus more on practical efforts and policies to bolster local businesses, enhancing comprehensive supply chains. This approach would legitimately turn tariffs into a competitive edge. Without such support, tariffs merely become a tool to increase the revenue of oligarchs at the expense of Americans. Meanwhile, bankers, reaping easy profits, show little willingness to sacrifice their short-term interests to motivate Americans to invest in building up their nation. That seems like a dead end to me.
It's capatalism at its finest. If a company's product can't compete on the market, whether due to poor quality or high prices... or both, then that company either innovates, or dies. So far we havn't seen a major innovation from a US company in decades
Blind loyalty to 'buy American' doesn't make a product better—it just shields companies from competition. Real patriotism is about making smart choices, not being guilt-tripped into overpaying. If an American company wants support, it should earn it through price and quality, not emotional manipulation.
I am with you. I am looking at 300k for my next truck to do my job. But I would for sure purchase these machines if it applied to my business. I still may pick up an excavator for around my dad's place. Great videos keep doing what you are doing!!
You are not a traitor. Like most folk, you have a set amount of money and to utilize the money you have, any smart person will put aside politics and buy any product at a good price, this is being a smart business person. We all want the best outcomes for our hard earned money and I would not worry about what others say, let them buy an American made product at a higher price.
With the tariffs on foreign countries, American companies will raise their prices to make even more profits on the products they sell and its everyday Americans who suffer.
Yes how hard is this to understand. Pay through the nose buying American or buy Chinese goods that are even more modern an inexpensive. Those same American companies trying to use the cheapest laborers they can find. Even iPhones and teslas are partly built in China. As we see prices now go through the roof, we Americans will be wishing for the days we had Canadian and Chinese products

I hear you, man. It's so insane with these politicians. They're out of touch. It make sense because majority of these politicians are billionaires and rich. They haven't experienced the life of middle class and low income earners. They don't know the reality of life itself.
Just adding to your point, China does has labour standard and environmental protection in place for the manufacture sector. In fact, Chinese labourers are more expensive than Mexican ones. What sets China apart being so exceptionally good in manufacturing goods and produce affordable products is the skillset from the labour force and automation.

Wow, found the last common sense left. I’m a controls engineer and have worked as a manufacturing consultant for over a decade. It is never about country it is about dollars. Take care of yourself and don’t be ashamed!
Your right brother your right. It’s said but what actually is happening I think I can explain.
Small businesses have started mirroring the corporate model, using the “mom-and-pop” label as a way to justify premium pricing. They see big businesses charging high prices and think, “If they can do it, why can’t we? The market is used to it.” They leverage their small business status to appeal to local consumers, often without acknowledging that many of their materials come from the same overseas suppliers, like China. This shift toward a transactional, profit-first mentality only fuels the cycle of rising costs, prioritizing extraction over the long term health of communities. And now, they’re trying to guilt-trip you into thinking that not supporting them is un-American when, in reality, they’ve adopted the same corporate mindset.

By buying Chinese products, you save more money, thus supporting the American household financial system.
Plus, you're an American yourself. Isn't supporting you as patriotic as supporting an American CEO?! This tarrif thing is a bs. Save your dollars! Americans are better off if we strengthened our financial conditions in our country, than if we improved the finances of some random billionaire

Enjoy your videos. As to the buy American flack, I am MAGA all the way, but as just as a small land owner I would love the 1000 mini you bought. As you stated I looked as the US brands and the we’re $50,000 with just the bucket! Another point is most of the other “US” brands are not made in the US and the ones that if are made contain parts from other countries such as China. Don’t let the armchair whiners get to you, it’s your money and not theirs.
Just Saw your channel on my feed, yes the title, interested me, I want to give you a lot of credit, for speaking out as you did, I wish more good American people like yourself spoke out...about the stupidity and distractions from the real truth that is going on in these chaotic Stupid, times with this NARSSISTIC administration....You my man are 100 percent correct, and justified, and I thank you for your honesty....your channel is not my niche, but I'll give you a deserving sub anyway...im also a fellow content creator...best wishes to you...
The biggest thing for me is that there isn't any American made that is the same size as either of your two smaller skidsteers. All of the American made machines are serving a market of replacing a normal, ride-in, skidsteer on a tight job site for professionals. Admittedly, this is the same market that the V1000 is going for (so your points about price are totally relevant there), but a machine that size would be much, much too big for my needs.
Maybe, if the smaller machines become more well known as a useful homeowner tool like a lawn tractor (to which your videos are contributing to mightily), American manufacturers will start making them that size but they aren't there yet so if you want one that size now, Chinese is the only option no matter what the price.
