During the research and development process, data is very important. Compared to being in a closed laboratory, going out and participating in various scenarios can gain better data. For a humanoid robot of conventional size, a 21-kilometer running requires approximately 250,000 precise joint movements, serving as an "extreme test" for joint accuracy, thermal management, power systems, control algorithms, communication interference, and other issues. Such activities not only have experimental value but also provide entertainment, and they should do it more often in the future.

Some people say that this is China "adding drama" to the industry, but that's wrong. If it were truly a "show", what we would see should be perfect in all aspects. However, what we see is unedited live broadcasts of the competition, with various issues arising with the participating robots.
Whether it's the human players, the live audience, or public opinion, they have all encouraged the technology companies and robot players. Who doesn't stumble on the road to growth? The development of an industry is no different.

Every time the robot falls, the system will receive thousands of sets of abnormal data. These data not only record the current state, but also include information on how to allocate joint torque and adjust step frequency on different road surfaces, helping the R&D team improve the stability and adaptability of the product in complex environments. The humanoid robot industry is also accelerating the process of landing applications through such "extreme tests" time and time again.

When the world's first car was introduced, it wasn't much faster than a horse-drawn carriage, yet look at our daily lives now. Robots are the same, perhaps when humanoid robots become widely integrated into society in the future, we will remember this race. It’s "one small step for robots, one giant leap for the industry."

Based on my understanding of Chinese national character, this stems from the fear of a century of national humiliation. We fear falling behind any country in advanced technology. It’s roughly like: if the U.S. has it, we must have it too. If Russia has it, we must have it too! No matter what it is!

In the 1980s, China even conducted research on human paranormal abilities, taking it very seriously. Because it was said that the U.S. and the Soviet unx were studying it, well then, we had to study it too, even if it seemed absurd like human paranormal abilities.

Interestingly, when I was a kid, I thought the leader in the robotics industry would surely be Germany, with Japan in second place. Maybe because one of my elders was obsessively studying West German and Japanese technology and couldn’t stop praising those two countries.

What is your reaction to seeing the robots running a half marathon?
My reaction…a glimpse of what’s to come, very, very soon…..

..…there’s no real surprises here. The advancement in technology over the past 5 years or so has been tremendous, and with the advent of AI going mainstream, (around November 2024 with OpenAI’s ChatGPT), I think it’s quite simply inevitable.

And once you start connecting and integrating AI with advanced robotics, well, its easy to see where its going to go. The writing is on the wall folks and has been for some time…if you can’t see it, get your eyes checked..!

Answer : Innovative and amazing
Explanation: Giving robots the ability to walk and run is one of the most crucial obxtives in robotics and engineering in general. It is what people in the 20th century could not even imagine. However, with everything, there are pros and also cons. If we ever get the chance to have robots who can run and even sprint, they could revolutionize warfare and, in a sense, bring more harm than good.

We've reached the point in technology where we're not that impressed by such an event. I'm ambivalent myself. But perhaps I should not be, one of our biggest fears would be an army of robots deciding that we are ineffective and should be terminated. I once watch the documentary on seven ways the world would end. All doomsayers! But one of them was terminated by the robots. Straight out of iRobot. Personally I don't think AI needs to go any further. But I know I'm speaking to the choir on this.

In Chinese media, almost every comment is negative—people call these robots “remote-controlled toys.”
On the track, the robots run up front while staff in the back steer them with remotes, and the robots are wildly overhyped.

No matter where it is manufactured, it is made step by step from 0 to 100.
Given the global declining birth rate and an increasing elderly population robot manufacturing and food production might be the only way to prevent mass starvation. Maybe it will happen just in time.
This reads like 19th century Europe to me. Eventually the workers became consumers working in the service industries (in between the com...st manifest was written and democracy and law settled) - let’s hope we can skip the world wars.
With service robots also becoming popular, there might not be enough service jobs for them.
There is at least one Chinese-run restaurant in New Jersey today (2025) which has a cute little robot carrying the food to one’s table.
Chinese hotpot chain Haidilao has equipped its branches in USA with service robots just like those in China, it’s fun to see them running around bringing all the dishes to your table. So far I haven’t see such robots in non-Chinese restaurants outside of China.

The good thing about the American chain restaurants is that their hotpot isn't brewed in gutter oil…

But American pork contains Ractopamine to promote lean meat, a chemical banned by most countries for being harmful to human health.
That’s why we never order pork when eating hotpot in USA, while we always order it when eating hotpot in China.

Even the service industry may be under threat. Unless your business offers bespoke services, most people appreciate better efficient service.
You are going to a place of perfection. This world will never be perfect. There will be always greed, selfishness,…

I assume you are describing current state.
“Cliff like lead”? Seriously? Please justify that.

Automation is the flip side, or the Chinese government’s solution, to the “demographic crisis” that mass media keeps going on about.
…seeing the shorter smaller robot lose to the taller one feels …do you really need data to know the shorter one won't do as well ?
If you set both stride length and frequency to an appropriate value, a shorter robot won't always lose to a taller one.
It’s amazing how science fiction becomes technological reality in 50 or 60 years. Like Gort and Robbie the Robot of the 1950’s to Robots running the half marathon now. Unbelievable.
